BJJ for Self-Defence Instructor
Paul Greenwood is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt dedicated to making grappling work for real-world encounters, not just on the mats.
At the Institute of Modern Defence, Paul teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specifically adapted for self-defence. This is no-gi, pressure-aware grappling designed to keep you safe, mobile, and able to disengage. The goal is survival and escape, not winning by points or getting creative from positions that don’t translate off the mats.
Paul’s instruction focuses on escapes, positional control, and staying upright whenever possible. Students learn how to manage strikes, environmental hazards, and multiple variables that sport rules remove. If a position doesn’t protect you in the real world, it doesn’t make the cut. No lapels, no donkey guard, no false sense of security.
With black belts in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, and as the owner of Greenwood Grappling, Paul brings depth, discipline, and clarity to ground training that actually supports personal safety.
